SECTION 4 - CURRENCY HANDLING

Tape on the surface of the currency used for re-
pairing, patching or any other purpose.

Staples, pins, or any other foreign body attached
to the notes.

Corner folds of a size greater than 1/2” on either
axis.

Two or more notes joined by any means.

Excessively crumpled or crinkled.

New or Uncirculated Note Defects

All the conditions listed for used notes.

Excessive bowing due to conditions of packing
and storing.

New or uncirculated currency must be “burst” and
fully separated prior to loading into cassettes.

Preparing Notes

Use the following procedures to prepare notes before
inserting them into a Note Cassette.

Preparing Used Notes

Remove the band around each bundle of notes.

Remove foreign objects (e.g. pins, paper clips,
crumbs, etc.).

Remove torn or very worn notes.

Straighten any folded notes.

Preparing New or Uncirculated Notes

Remove the band around each bundle of notes.
Separate the notes from each other by:

Striking the bundle hard against the edge of a table
or similar object.

Flipping through each bundle of notes in both di-
rections at each end.

Using a Note Counter.
