Overview of Scripting

An added benefit of the TrueCopy feature is its support for scripting operations. This capability
provides the user with additional flexibility in managing their TrueCopy for Mainframe environment.
A TrueCopy for Mainframe script file contains a list of macros (commands) which describes a series
of TrueCopy for Mainframe pair operations. The scripting macros are defined in a text file, and
the TrueCopy for Mainframe software reads the text file and executes the specified TrueCopy for
Mainframe pair operations. A TrueCopy for Mainframe script file that was created for an
XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array or an earlier storage system model can also be used for an
XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array TrueCopy for Mainframe.
This appendix assumes that the user is familiar with batch files and does not provide instructions
for writing or editing batch files. The macro commands and parameters listed in this appendix are
the only commands recognized by the TrueCopy for Mainframe scripting function.

CAUTION:

The user is responsible for testing the TrueCopy for Mainframe scripting function

before running any TrueCopy for Mainframe scripts. If a TrueCopy for Mainframe script is run
without prior testing and the script ends abnormally, data loss could occur. Before testing a TrueCopy
for Mainframe script, back up the data and vary the volumes offline. If the volumes must remain
online, back up the data and confirm that the target pair defined in the TrueCopy for Mainframe
script is correct. The results of a TrueCopy for Mainframe script can be confirmed by checking the
latest TrueCopy for Mainframe pair status update (Last Updated field on TrueCopy for Mainframe
Detailed Information dialog box).

“Functional Macro Commands for TrueCopy for Mainframe Scripting” (page 227)

lists the TrueCopy

for Mainframe pair macro commands.

“Internal Macro Commands for TrueCopy for Mainframe

Scripting” (page 227)

lists the internal macro commands for TrueCopy for Mainframe scripting. The

following TrueCopy for Mainframe operations cannot be performed using TrueCopy for Mainframe
scripting and must be performed using the Remote Web Console computer:
