8A.11.2 Radiator Pressure Cap

The system is designed to use a radiator pressure
cap to prevent the boiling of the lubricant. For a
210 °F (99 °C) system use a 7 psi (48 kPa)
radiator cap. An incorrect or malfunctioning cap
can result in the loss of coolant and the engine
running hot.

8A.11.3 How to Replace Thermostat

and Water Temperature Sensor

If it becomes necessary to replace the thermostat
and/or water temperature sensor, Figs. 8A.23 and
24, proceed as follows.

1.

Drain Coolant.

2.

Disconnect hose.

3.

Remove outlet adaptor.

4.

Remove thermostat or sensor.

5.

Clean the gasket area of the housing.

6.

Position thermostat or thread sensor in
housing.

7.

Place gasket and hose connection over
thermostat.

8.

Install lock washer and capscrew.

9.

Torque the capscrews to 18 lb-ft (24 Nm).

8A.11.4 Integral Oil Cooler in Oil Filter

The oil filter for a turbocharged engine, Fig. 8A.25,
has an integral oil cooler. Whenever you change
engine coolant, drain the oil cooler by removing
inlet and outlet connections, flush the cooler and
reconnect hoses.
