10. Check and clean the oil drain plug threads and

sealing surface. Install the oil pan drain plug
and torque plug to 60 lb-ft (80 Nm).

11. Remove oil fill cap, Fig. 8A.1, and add 10W30

motor oil equal to API, CD or CE (severe duty
diesel engine) specifications, refer to para-
graph 8A.10. DO NOT overfill. Crankcase
capacity with filter is 9.4 quarts (8,9 liters) for
Perkins Natural and 9.9 quarts (9,4 liters) for
Perkins Turbo.

12. Start the engine and run for several minutes.

13. Stop the engine and allow oil to drain back for

a few minutes.

14. Check dipstick and add oil if required.

15. Idle the engine to inspect for leaks at the filters

and drain plug. Retighten if necessary.

16. Stop the engine. Wait approximately 5

minutes to let the oil drain from the upper parts
of the engine. Check the oil level again. If
required, add oil to bring level to full (F) or high
(H) mark on the dipstick.

17. Close and lock engine access door.

Tighten the drain cock and top bleed screw
after draining.

5.

Close and lock the right rear engine access
door.

8A.6.3 Drain Fuel Pre-Filter

1.

Unlock and open right rear access door.

2.

Open top bleed screw of fuel pre-filter, Fig.
8A.10.

3.

Loosen drain cock on bottom of fuel pre-filter
and allow all water to drain into a glass until
clear fuel is visible.

8A.6.4 Inspect Fan Belt and

Check Fan Belt Tension

1.

Lower carriage to ground, shut off engine, and
engage park lock.

2.

Unlock and open the left rear engine access
door.

3.

Inspect the fan belt. Replace a cracked or
frayed belt.

4.

Check fan belt tension midway between the
crankshaft and alternator pulleys, Fig. 8A.21.
Deflection should be 1/4 to 3/8" (6,3 to 9,5
mm) with an applied force of 13 to 15 lb (6 to 7
kg).

5.

If belt deflection exceeds this tolerance,
loosen both alternator mounting screws.
Carefully pry the alternator to tighten the belt
and, at the same time, tighten the alternator
screws. Recheck belt deflection.

Every 500 Hours
or 6 Months

All checks or inspections listed under daily or
previous maintenance intervals must also be
performed at this time in addition to those listed
under this maintenance interval.
