Work with Environment objects

Tools in the Environment

You can use the Pointer, Pencil, and Eraser tools to select, create, and delete objects in
the Environment.

The following tools are also available:

Text tool: Click an object with the Text tool to rename it.

MIDI Thru tool: Click an object with the MIDI Thru tool to assign the object to the selected track
in the main window.

Add and delete objects

You can add and delete objects in the Environment using menu commands or tools.

Add an object
Do one of the following:

m

Choose an object type from the New menu in the Environment menu bar.
The object is added to the current layer.

m

Click a layer background with the Pencil tool.
A new instrument object is created.

Delete an object
Do one of the following:

m

Select all objects you want to delete, then choose Edit > Delete in the Environment menu bar (or
press Delete).

m

Click the object with the Eraser tool.

Move and copy objects

You can move and copy objects within a layer or between layers, using a variety of techniques.

Move an object by dragging
Do one of the following:

m

Grab the icon, name, or positioning bar to the right of the object (in the case of keyboard and
fader objects, for example), then drag it to a new position in the layer.

m

Hold down Shift, then drag the object to a new position in the layer (beneficial in the case of
keyboard and fader objects, for example).
Note: Remember to first deselect any other selected objects by clicking the layer background, to
avoid moving them as well.
