Click the All Power Off button in the MPX main window.

2. Set specimen installation parameters.

a) In the Explorer tab of the MPX main window, select Set Up > New Specimen > Install Specimen.
b) Select Stable Displacement for the Active Control Mode.

c) Set Specimen Protection limits.

Because of the flexible nature of the spring, specimen protection limits are not really necessary.
The beige spring has a spring rate of approximately 90 N/mm and can withstand 3000 N force
without reaching full compression. While, in this case, the specimen does not require protection,
you can set the following limits as an added safety precaution.

Maximum Tension—Enter 60 N and press Enter.

Maximum Compression—Enter 60 N and press Enter

Note: Both numbers should be positive (or unsigned).

Important: Specimen Protection must be turned on for it to be in effect during the Install
Specimen
node. See Step e.

d) Leave the Turn off specimen limits when protecting the specimen check box unchecked.

Turning off specimen limits turns off the specimen limits that you set in

Set Limits

(p. 107). This

feature is only active during the Install Specimen node and when Specimen Protection is turned on.
It is provided for special cases where specimen installation requires wider protection limits than
tuning and testing. Since this is not one of those cases, leave this check box unchecked.

e) Select Turn Specimen Protection On.

This turns specimen protection on while you are in the Install Specimen node.
