Connect the other end to your LAN connection (hub, router,
wall plug, etc.).

Point-to-Point Connection — To use your Nios development board
connected directly to a host computer point-to-point (not on a
LAN), do the following:

a.

Connect one end of your RJ45 cable to the female socket in the
crossover adapter.

b.

Insert the male end of the crossover adapter into RJ1 on the
Nios development board.

c.

Connect the other end of the RJ45 connector directly to the
network (Ethernet) port on your host computer (see

Figure C–2

on page C–2

).

Connecting the
LCD Screen

Your Nios II development kit was delivered with a two-line x 16-
character LCD text screen. The web-server software displays useful status
and progress messages on this display. If you wish to use the network
features of the board, connect the LCD screen to the Expansion Prototype
Connector (J12). See the Nios II Development Kit, Getting Started User Guide
for details.

Obtaining an IP
Address

In order to function on a network (either LAN or point-to-point), your
board must have an IP address. This section describes the methods to
assign an IP address to your board.
