5.14 Managing hp procurve and hp advancestack Networking Products

HP Toptools for OpenView NNM includes support for HP Procurve and Advancestack networking products. You
can discover and receive events from an unlimited number of HP networking devices that support webagent
technology. You can also access the advanced management features of HP Toptools for Hubs and Switches such as
Quality of Service (QOS) or Traffic Monitor, directly from the NNM map by launching the Toptools Device
Manager from the NNM toolbar (Tools menu).

To access the full device and network management capability of HP hubs, switches, and bridges, the toptools server
should have HP Toptools for Hubs and Switches installed. If you install HP Toptools for Hubs and Switches after
installing the platform bridge component of HP Toptools for OpenView NNM, you must uninstall the platform
bridge component and reinstall it. (This is because the platform bridge component performs an install-time
configuration of menu items rather than a run-time configuration.)

Each HP networking device is uniquely identified on the NNM map by a customized icon. After selecting the HP
networking device, new menu items become enabled (Table 6).

There are three options for viewing the configuration of a managed networking device.

Device View is available on NNM-NT/WINDOWS 2000 single system installations. It displays a realistic,

graphical view of the networking device on the console with options for configuration and traffic monitoring.
(Figure 5-29)

Properties launches the SNMP property pages within toptools for all HP networking products supporting

SNMP. These pages display basic identification, location, and network traffic details.

Management Home Page is supported by HP networking devices that use a webagent. Similar to

Properties(Device View), the webagent pages provide extensive control of the device’s configuration. Selecting
the option opens a browser directly to the device from NNM-NT, NNM-UX, or NNM-Solaris consoles. (Figure
5-30)

Support for menu items is dependent on the particular model of the networking device, and which management
technologies it has enabled.
