Version 5.6

Problem: After discovery is done, you try to invoke a URL for some action and it returns with an error message
“Unable to invoke URL”.

• If this message comes before launching the browser this indicates that hpttLaunchAction has had a problem.

Check if hpttLaunchAction is running once you click on an toptools action menu item.

• If the browser is invoked and then it gives a message about invoke URL it means that the plug-in manager on

the toptools server returned an incorrect URL. Consult your toptools documentation for verifying the
performance of the toptools server.

Problem: Some of the menu items for the HP devices are not showing up.

• For maximum functionality of managing HP devices, make sure that HP Toptools for Servers, HP Toptools for

Hubs and Switches, and HP Web Jetadmin are installed on the HP Toptools server. The range of menu action
items inside NNM is dependent on the actions available within toptools. If you add components to toptools
after you install the bridge, you must reinstall the platform bridge component.

Problem:
When you uninstall HP Toptools for NNM and then re-install it at a later date, HP SNMP devices such as
hubs and switches, printers, and remote control cards do not have toptools menu items listed via a right click on the
object.

• This can be corrected by having NNM poll these nodes and update their capabilities. To do this, do a Find

Object by Attribute on "isSNMPSupported", select those devices on the map you wish to update, and then go to
Fault->Network Connectivity->Poll Node to update those nodes. Note that if you remove the OpenView
database before re-installing HP Toptools for NNM, you will not encounter this problem. In this case, NNM
will do a completely new discovery of all devices and find all of the updated capabilities.

Problem:
On the NNM system, an error message is displayed saying that NNM cannot contact the toptools server.

• If the toptools server bridge is not running or the server is down, the NNM console will display a window

giving an error message with the error number as 10064. This indicates that the platform bridge is unable
to contact the toptools server. Make sure the server bridge is running on the toptools server. If you restart
the toptools server station, the toptools service control manager (RVIEWSCM) should start the process
(hpttSrvrBrg.exe). This might take a little while. If it still doesn’t start then there may be a problem with
the service control manager. You can also manually execute the file (hpttSrvrBrg.exe). Verify that the
NNM system can contact this process by running “telnet <ttserver_ip_address> 5041”. If no error returns,
contact is successful. Then restart hpttBrdgDisc on the NNM system by running “ovstart hpttBrdgDisc”. If
these steps do not work, reinstall the server bridge.

Problem: Updating firmware works for PCs, but not for hubs.

• To update firmware for some older HP hubs the toptools server must be installed on the same system as

OpenView NNM-NT. Refer to the Hubs and Switches section of the toptools readme file for additional
information and a list of models of HP hubs requiring a single system.
