6 Troubleshooting
HP Toptools for OpenView NNM installs software, referred to as bridge components, on both the HP OpenView
Network Node Manager console and the HP Toptools server.
6.1 Overview of Bridge Operation
The bridge is made up of Platform and Server processes.
6.1.1 Platform Bridge Processes
The component installed on the NNM server is referred to as the platform bridge component. The platform bridge
adds four processes to the NNM console: hpttBrdgDisc, hpttBrdgMgr, hpttLaunchAction and nsaAgentStatus.
hpttBrdgDisc
The hpttBrdgDisc process is controlled via the NNM ovspmd process, which means that it can be started, stopped,
and polled using ovstart, ovstop, and ovstatus. (It is considered a well-behaved OpenView object manager.) The
hpttBrdgDisc process performs second level discovery on HP Netserver and HP PC products.
hpttBrdgMrg
The hpttBrdgMgr process interacts with the OpenView map to change node symbol types to HP symbols and to
enable menu items based on selections within OpenView. The hpttBrdgMgr process launches toptools applications
by using the hpttLaunchAction process which gets the correct URL from the HP Toptools Plug-In Manager running
on the toptools server.
hpttLaunchAction
The hpttLaunchAction process is invoked when a toptools menu item is selected within ovw. Each menu item action
for an HP device is used to invoke a web browser with a particular URL that relates to the menu item action. The
hpttLaunchAction process creates an instance of a browser if one is not available, or finds a handle to an existing
instance of a browser if one is available. By reusing the instance of the browser, the URL is more quickly retrieved.
