SNMP and Event Management

During platform bridge installation, HP hub and switch MIBS are loaded into OpenView NNM. This means that
hub and switch traps will be formatted and the NNM MIB browser and other SNMP management tools can be used
to GET and SET SNMP MIB variables.

To automatically configure HP networking products to send traps to the NNM server, there are two options that
apply to the models listed below:

Models supported by SNMP/Trap Configuration and Automatic Management

Advancestack 10 Base-T Switching Hub

Advancestack Switch 800T, 2000B

Procurve 10 Base-T hub 12M, 24M

Procurve 10/100 hub 12M, 24M

Procurve Switch 2400, 2424, 4000, 1600, 8000

1. Use the SNMP/Trap Configuration menu item (Figure 5-32) to configure thresholds and trap destinations on the

selected device. This dialog is only supported on NNM-NT.

2. Access HP Toptools for Hubs and Switches SNMP/Trap Configuration using the following procedure.

From the NNM menu bar, select Tools, Toptools Home to launch the Toptools Server home page. In
toptools, display the available devices by selecting Devices, Devices by Type, Networking Devices.
Select the desired device(s) and right click. Then select SNMP/Trap Configuration from the action menu.
This will display the Device Configuration dialog. To configure a new trap destination select the Trap
Receivers
tab. Enter the address of the new device to receive traps. Click Add, Apply. You will be asked
to enter a password to log on to the device(s) to complete the configuration. By selecting multiple devices
in the list, you are able to specify trap destinations for all of them that support the SNMP/Trap
Configuration feature. This feature is supported on NNM-NT, NNM-Solaris, and NNM-UX.

Note: To use Device View or SNMP/Trap Configuration to set trap destinations, the read community for the
selected device must be set to public. You will be prompted to enter the correct write community.
