User/Application Fairness Example

Bandwidth Management can be applied to prevent heavy bursters from locking out other users,
such as in preventing the following:

n

Customers using broadband access (such as DSL) from blocking dial-up customers

n

Customers from the same hosting facility locking out each other because of flash crowd

n

FTP from locking out Telnet

n

Rate limit particular applications

In the following example, BWM is configured to prevent broadband customers from affecting
dial-up customer access. This is accomplished by setting higher bandwidth policy rate limits
for the port processing broadband traffic.

1.

Select the first bandwidth policy.

Each policy must have a number from 1 to 64.

N

OTE
