About one-touch keys, speed-dial codes,
and group-dial codes

To simplify the dialing process for a fax number you dial frequently
from the control panel, store it into a one-touch key, speed-dial code,
or group-dial code. If your computer is directly connected to the
product using a parallel cable and you have a compatible e-mail
program installed, you can also program e-mail addresses as one-
touch keys, speed-dial codes, or group-dial codes.

You can program up to 225 speed-dial codes and 25 group-dial codes
in any order. Speed-dial or group-dial codes using numbers 1-10 are
also associated with the corresponding one-touch key on the control
panel. Procedures for programming these codes from the control
panel and software appear in this chapter.

Fax numbers (and e-mail addresses) programmed into one-touch
keys, speed-dial codes, and group-dial codes are in addition to, and
totally separate from, the 500 fax numbers that can be stored in the
JetSuite software’s PC Fax Phone Books. Numbers in one-touch
keys, speed-dial codes, and group-dial codes are only available when
you send paper faxes from the product control panel. Numbers in the
PC Fax Phone Books are only available when you send paper faxes
using the Document Assistant or electronic faxes from the JetSuite
Pro software or another program.

Even though one-touch keys, speed-dial codes, and group-dial codes
can be programmed from the software, this information is stored
completely separately from the PC Fax Phone Books. Changing one-
touch keys, speed-dial codes, and group-dial codes using the
software in no way affects the PC Fax Phone Books.

CAUTION

If the product loses power for a significant period of time, one-touch,
speed-dial, and group-dial codes might be lost. Regularly print a one-
touch, speed-dial, and group-dial report so you have a current copy.

Also, if the product is directly connected to your computer, the software
tries to rebuild the codes when power is again available. However, you
can back up the dial codes to the computer and then download the
codes back to the product when needed. See “Backing up and restoring
codes” on page 117
.
