a) If necessary, turn Exclusive Control on.
b) Move the left and right crosshead locks to the fully unlocked position.
c) Using the crosshead lift controls on the frame-mounted control, lower the crosshead so there is
about 13 mm clearance between the spring and top platen.
d) Move the left and right crosshead locks to the fully locked position.
e) When you are done adjusting the crosshead, turn Exclusive Control off.
Tune the System for the Specimen
The values returned for stiffness, mass, and damping will vary slightly every time auto tuning is run due
to the nature of the random noise used in the tuning program. In this tuning example, the specimen
protection limits and minimum/maximum force limits assume that the polarity is set to Tension Is Positive.
If you change polarity, you may need to adjust the values accordingly.
1. Auto offset zero the axial force control mode.
You should always start auto tuning and verification steps from a near zero force value and always
start from the same values for each step.
a) In the Layer Control panel, hide the specimen limit sliders and the offset reference. This ensures
that the offset value in the axial force Situational Awareness panel is visible.
