When creating a custom test, the test designer can optionally configure the test to check that the polarity
of the system corresponds correctly to the template. However, if you are running a custom test that was
not supplied by MTS, it is important to verify which polarity mode (tension positive or compression positive)
that the test designer intended because the test designer may not have added a polarity validation step
to the test. Running a test in the unintended polarity mode can cause unintended results. For example, if
you run a test that assumes compression is positive and you set tension as positive when you install
fixturing, you may receive “inverted” test results, the actuator may move in the opposite direction that was
intended, or the test may not run at all.

Select to invert all invertible signals to tension positive (compression
negative) in the axial channel. The numbers on the right side of the Situation
Tension is positive
Awareness panel diagrams will be positive on top and negative on the
bottom. Auxiliary signals that can be inverted are not modified when this
option is selected.
Select to invert all invertible signals associated with the axial channel to
compression positive (tension negative) in the axial channel. The numbers
Compression is positive
on the right side of the Situation Awareness panel diagrams will be negative
on top and positive on the bottom. Auxiliary signals that can be inverted are
not modified when this option is selected.
Select and click the cog wheel icon to set the polarity for one or more signals
regardless of whether they are on the axial channel. Default values are
those previously set.
Custom
Inverting Specific Signals
To change the polarity of specific signals:
1. Click the Custom radio button.
2. Click the cog wheel icon next to the Custom radio button. The Edit Polarity window opens (see figure
below).
3. Locate the signal to be modified, and click the drop-down menu and select Inverted.
4. Click OK.
