Troubleshooting

This chart primarily covers problems arising from air cart
issues, although it does include a few drill items.

Also consult the Troubleshooting chart for the drill
implement.

Problem

Cause

Solution

Planting too
little

Incorrect meter setting

Re-check against Seed Rate Charts. Re-check
gearbox setting, Quick-Change sprocket setting
and Meter Box Gears. Calibrate.

Shift levers forced - current indication is not the
current gear selection

Disengage gearbox clutch. Check full range of
lever movement and return to intended setting.
Re-engage and pin clutch.

Incorrect tire size or air pressure

Check tire size and air pressure, page 107.

Excessive field speed: chart rates were
developed at 6.5 mph (10.5 km/h).

Reduce speed

Seed size and weight vary from chart

Calibrate. Adjust rate to compensate.

Actual field size is different

Verify field size.

Incorrect cart sprocket setup for implement

Check against table on page 114.

Meter flutes worn or damaged

Empty hopper. Inspect from above while a
second person operates calibration crank.

Treatment build-up or obstruction in meter or
seed tubes (foreign material or uncleaned
seed)

Clean seed tubes.
Unload hopper and clean meter.

Low seed level in hopper

Fill seed box. Load more than required to cover
agitator and keep meter evenly supplied.

Foreign matter in seed.

Charts are based on clean untreated seed. Use
clean seed.

Height switch operating too low - clutch is
disengaging with openers in ground

See adjustment in implement Operator Manual.

Electric clutch operation intermittent

Check for corroded connection or damaged
wiring.

Clutch slippage due to chain lube in clutch

Disassemble and de-grease clutch. On an
emergency basis, use the clutch lock-up
procedure on page 74.

Large air leak above seed in hopper

Check for and correct any leaks. Make sure lid is
properly closed and latched.

Excessive gaps between drill passes

Adjust implement markers.

Thrown or worn chains

Check drive chains.
