Operating Instructions

This sections covers general operating procedures. Expe-
rience, machine familiarity and the following information
will lead to efficient cart operation and good working hab-
its. Carefully read the operator’s manual for the implement
you will be using with cart. Always operate farm machinery
with safety in mind.

General Description

Seed metering is powered by the cart tire and driven at a
rate proportional to distance traveled. Each seed bin is
self-contained and has its own metering device. The seed
bins are sealed and held at the same pressure as the
meter boxes so metering is controlled mechanically–not
by air-flow fluctuations. The metered seed is carried by air
through the hoses to the distribution towers on the imple-
ment. These towers then divide the air and seed into indi-
vidual rows.

The metering devices are driven through an electro-mag-
netic clutch. The clutch which will not engage unless the
fan motor is running at high speed and implement is low-
ered past an adjustable height switch. This prevents the
primary seed hoses from being plugged by seed metered
into the hoses without the fan running. This also allows
seed metering to be shut off automatically when the drill is
lifted for headland turns.

Prestart Checklist

1.

Lubricate the cart as indicated under Lubrication,
Maintenance and Lubrication,” page 46.

2.

Check the tires for proper inflation according to Tire In-
flation Chart
, “Appendix,” page 53.

3.

Check the chains for proper tension and alignment as
shown under Drive System Adjustments, Adjust-
ments
,” page 38.

4.

Perform all beginning-of-season and daily service
items discussed in under General Maintenance,
Maintenance and Lubrication,” page 46.

5.

Check for worn or damaged parts and repair or re-
place before going to the field.

6.

Check all nuts, bolts and screws. Tighten bolts as
specified on Torque Values Chart, “Appendix,” page
53.

Filling the Cart

1.

Be certain the cart is securely hitched to a tractor with
adequate weight and power. See Tractor Require-
ments
, “Preparation and Setup,” page 11.

NOTE: Static tongue weight of a loaded cart is about
5,500 pounds on level ground and more when facing
downhill.

2.

Be certain the bin unloading door on the bottom of the
meter box is securely closed and latched as shown in
Figure 2-1.

3.

With the cart fan running, check bin-lid and meter-box
seals carefully for air leaks. Adjust bin latch or replace
seals to prevent leakage.

4.

Park cart on solid, level ground.

5.

Shut off all hydraulic power to the cart.

IMPORTANT: Before filling the cart for the first time and
at the beginning of each season, check the entire bin
for leaks. A small air leak can cause large variations in
seeding rates.
