General Maintenance

Proper servicing and adjustment is the key to the long life
of any farm equipment. With careful and systematic in-
spection and lubrication, you can avoid many costly re-
pairs and downtime.

!

WARNING!

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing
serious injury. Check all hydraulic lines and fittings before ap-
plying pressure.Use paper or cardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, to
check for suspected leaks. Wear protective gloves and safety
glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems. If an
accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected
into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or
gangrene will result.

1.

Always turn off and remove the tractor key before
making any adjustments or performing maintenance.

2.

After initially running the air drill for several hours,
check all bolts to be sure they are tight as specified on
the Torque Values Chart, “Appendix,” page 53. Use
equivalent fasteners to replace any damaged or miss-
ing bolts.

3.

Clean or replace any fittings which will not take
grease. Lubricate the cart as noted under Lubrication,
this page.

4.

Adjust the idlers to take up excess chain slack as de-
scribed under Drive System Adjustments, “Adjust-
ments
,” page 38. Do not overtighten chains.

5.

Inflate tires as indicated on Tire Inflation Chart, “Ap-
pendix
,” page 53.

6.

Replace any worn, damaged or illegible safety labels
at once. Refer to Safety Labels, “Important Safety In-
formation
,” page 4.

7.

Check and repair all air leaks or damage in bin-lid and
meter seals.

Storage

1.

Store the cart in an area where children do not play. If
possible, store cart inside for longer machine life.

2.

Undo the bin-lid latch to release pressure on seal.

3.

Empty the bin completely. Hand crank the meter sev-
eral turns to empty completely. Blow out the meter
with air to remove all material.

4.

Raise the auger, then run the motor in reverse until au-
ger is completely empty. Return to storage position.

5.

Remove the drive chains and store in oil.

6.

Lubricate the cart at all points listed under Lubrication,
this page.

7.

Check all bolts, pins, fittings and hoses. Tighten, re-
pair or replace parts as needed.

8.

Check all moving and earth-contact parts for wear or
damage. Make notes of any parts needing repair be-
fore the next season.

9.

Thoroughly wash the bin with water inside and out to
prevent corrosion.

10. Open the meter-box doors to release seal pressure.

Do not open the doors wide enough for animals to en-
ter the meters. Wire doors in place if needed. Do not
store the cart with the seal compressed.

11. Turn the auger hopper so rain or debris will not collect

in the hopper.

12. If the cart is disconnected from the implement for stor-

age, plug all 2 1/2-inch openings to prevent birds from
nesting.

13. Use touch-up paint to cover scratches, chips and worn

areas to prevent rust.
