Drive System Adjustments

Initially check the drive chains after the first 10 hours of
drill use. Thereafter, check the chains every 100 hours.

Hub Chain
Refer to Figure 3-10.
Check chain tension. Chain should have 1/8-inch slack. To
adjust, loosen the bolts holding the main-shaft bearings
and slide the main shaft. Retighten bolts.

Hub Chain

NOTE: If you make any adjustments to the hub chain,
check tension on the chain from the main shaft to clutch
shaft.

Clutch Input and Gearbox Input Chains
Refer to Figure 3-11.

1.

Check that drive sprocket (1) and clutch sprocket (2)
are aligned. If not, loosen the set screws holding the
drive sprocket and move drive sprocket until aligned.
Re-tighten the set screws.

2.

Check chain tension. Rear span of clutch-input chain
should have 1/2-inch slack at the midpoint. Lower
span of gearbox-input chain should have 7-8-inch
slack at the midpoint. To adjust, loosen bolts holding
the clutch-shaft bearings and slide the clutch shaft up
or down. Keep the clutch shaft parallel with the main
shaft. Retighten bolts.

3.

If you move the clutch shaft, check the electric clutch
anti-rotation tang and stop bolt. See Figure 3-12. The
tang must fit loosely over the stop bolt. If necessary,
move the stop bolt in its slot to ensure a loose fit or to
get greater chain adjustment.

IMPORTANT: To ensure long clutch life, it is very im-
portant that the bolt is not tight against either end of
the slot in the clutch tang
