Troubleshooting

Problem

Possible Solutions

Actual seed rate is different from rate
desired.

Check for air leaks around meters and bin lids. A small air leak can reduce the
seeding rate dramatically.

Check that gearbox, quick-change sprockets and meter-box gears are set cor-
rectly. Refer to Setting the Meter Rate, “Adjustments,” page 20.

Check the cart tires for correct pressure. Refer to Tire Inflation Chart, “Appen-
dix
,” page 53.

Check meter for seed treatment build-up. Unload bin and clean meter.

Check for foreign material that may block meter. Keep strainer basket in place
and foreign material out of bin.

Check that electric clutch is engaging. Adjust switch as explained under Electric
Clutch Switch Adjustment
, “Adjustments,” page 39.

Check electric clutch harness for faulty or corroded connections. Clean or
replace terminals.

Run fan at a higher speed. Refer to Field Operations, “Operating Instructions,”
page 17.

Keep enough seed in the cart to cover the agitator shaft. Do not run meter out of
seed.

Check that proper sprockets are installed. Refer to Cart Drive System, “Prepara-
tion and Setup
,” page 11.

Check that gearbox levers are indicating actual setting. Shifting the gearbox with
the clutch handle engaged will force the gearbox shifter out of place. Always dis-
engage gearbox clutch before shifting. Refer to Setting the Meter Rate, “Adjust-
ments
,” page 20.

Check for foreign material in seed. Seeding rate charts are based on clean,
untreated seed.

Erratic seeding pattern or emergence

Check if 1-inch seed hoses are plugged. Stop and raise the drill with the fan run-
ning. Hand crank the meter to see if any hoses are plugged.

Check carefully for air leaks and adjust the latch or replace the seals as needed.
Air leaks may cause small seeding skips that move across the drill width.

Check electric-clutch harness for faulty or corroded connections. Clean or
replace terminals.

Check for debris in towers blocking the hoses. Blockage may shift from outlet to
outlet.

Reduce ground speed. Driving too fast can cause erratic seeding.

On hoe-type drills, check that openers are lined up with press wheels.

Excessive seed cracking

Reduce fan speed. Refer to Field Operations, “Operating Instructions,” page
17.

Check that dividers are installed in the tower assembly.
