NOTE: The Windows Powered operating system installed in the PowerVault 735N is dedicated to file
server operations. Consequently, the PowerVault 735N cannot be used in the following capacities:

Primary Domain Controller (PDC)
Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) server
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server
Domain Name System (DNS) server
Microsoft Exchange Server
Simple Query Language (SQL) server
Network Information Service (NIS) server

The system includes an onboard PowerEdge™ Expandable RAID Controller 2/dual channel (PERC 2/DC)
card installed in PCI slot 1. For additional storage, up to three optional PowerVault 210S storage systems
can be attached to the system using an additional PERC 2/DC card (optional) installed in peripheral
component interconnect (PCI) slot 2. The system can be attached to 10/100 or Gigabit networks, depending
on the PCI adapter(s) installed in the system.

The following sections describe the major system and servicing features of the PowerVault 735N NAS
Appliance, as well as the added security features built into the system.

System Features

The storage appliance offers the following major features:

One or two Intel® Pentium® III microprocessors with an internal operating frequency of at least 866
MHz.

Front side bus with an external bus speed of 133 MHz.

Two types of configurations: one processor with 512 MB of system memory or two processors with 1
GB of system memory. Both configurations use registered SDRAM DIMMs in the DIMM sockets on the
system board.

A flash BIOS that can be upgraded if required.

Up to five 1-inch hot-pluggable SCSI hard-disk drives.

A power supply distribution board to accommodate up to two independent power supplies.

A single, 1.44-MB 3.5-inch diskette drive.

A 24X CD-ROM drive.

The system board includes the following features:

Three full-length PCI slots, located in a removable expansion-card cage.

An integrated video graphics array (VGA)-compatible video subsystem with an ATI RAGE IIC video
controller. This video subsystem contains 4 MB synchronous dynamic random access memory
