Replacing the Expansion Card

To install a replacement expansion card, perform the following steps.

" for information on protecting the system from electrostatic discharge.

1. Open the

system doors

.

2.

Remove the expansion-card cage

.

3. Prepare the replacement expansion card for installation.

See the documentation that came with the expansion card for information on configuring the card, making internal connections, or
otherwise customizing the card for the system.

4. Select the expansion slot that you will install the new expansion card in.

5. To release an expansion-card's back-panel bracket, rotate the latch away from the expansion-card bracket (see

Figure 23

).

6. To install the card, insert the card-edge connector firmly into the expansion-card connector on the chassis.

7. When the card is firmly seated in the connector and the card-mounting bracket is aligned with the brackets on either side of it, close the

expansion-card latch.

8. If the expansion card is a full-length card, secure the inner end of the card by closing the plastic latch on the card guide over the top

edge of the card (see

Figure 23

).

9. Connect any cables that should be attached to the card.

10.

Install the expansion-card cage into the chassis

11. Close the

system doors

, and then reconnect the system and peripherals to their AC power sources and turn them on.

DIMMs

The four DIMM sockets on the system board can accommodate 512 MB to 1 GB of registered SDRAM. The DIMM sockets are located near
the back edge of the system board (see

Figure 30

for location on the system board).
