Starting a seam

1 .

Turn

hand

wheel

toward

your

direction

until

the

needle

is

in

its highest position and lift the presserfoot.

2.

Place

cloth

under

presser

foot

placing

with

needle

approximately

j

cm

from

edge

of

cloth.

Align

the

edge

with

one of the seam on the needle plate (illustration I).

3.

Lowerthe presserfoot.

Guidingand supportingfabrics

Most fabrics need to be guided only in front of foot, however

some fabrics need to be supported as they are sewn (illustration

2).

For

tricot

knitting

and

other

similar

synthetic

knits,

apply

gentle

tension

by

holding

the

fabric

at

the

front

and

back

of

presserfoot as you sew. Do not pull fabric.

For

fine

fabrics

or

with

unusual

amount

of

elasticity,

such

as

stretch

knits

(helanca)

or

Lycra,

hold

the

fabric

firmly

both

fabric

and

threads

at

the

front

and

back

to

start

a

seam.

Followingthis procedure, the stitch will not pucker.
