Installing a subcard

CAUTION:

When the switch is powered on, do not install a subcard to the base card that has been installed on the
switch.

A subcard must be used together with a base card. A base card can support POS or RPR when installed

with a Packet over SONET/SDH (POS) or Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) subcard.
The subcards are not hot swappable. You can install a subcard in one of the following ways:

Power off the switch, and install the subcard to the base card on the switch.

When the switch is powered on, install the subcard to the base card that has not been installed, and
then install them to the switch.

The following describes how to install a subcard to the base card when the switch is powered off.

Installation preparation

Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap and make sure it is properly grounded.

Make sure the switch is powered off and installed with the base card.

Remove the blank panel (if any) from the slot to be used on the base card.

Unpack the subcard.

Installation procedure

To install a subcard:

1.

Turn the ejector levers of the subcard outward simultaneously with both hands, and slide the
