ULTRACONSOLE REMOTE 2 INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONS MANUAL

Appendix D – VNC Viewer Options

When you are connecting to the UltraConsole Remote 2 using the VNC viewer, a number of options are available.
Normally, the default settings for all the options are acceptable and provide for a safe, secure connection to the unit.
If the color / Encoding / Scaling / Inputs / Identities / Load – Save options / or Misc. items need modifying, start the
VNC viewer and click on the Options tab. This will invoke the VNC Viewer Options.

Click the Options button to display the VNC Viewer options.
There are six tabbed pages of options:

Color / Encoding tab

Auto select
When checked, this option will examine the speed of your connection and apply the most suitable encoding method.
This option is acceptable for the majority of installations.
Preferred encoding
There are three selectable encoding methods available when the Auto select option is not selected.

ZRLE – This is a highly compressed method
Hextile – This method offers better performance than the ZRLE when used over a high speed network

because there is no need for the UltraConsole Remote 2 to spend time highly compressing the data.

Raw – This is a primitive, uncompressed method that is mainly used for technical support issues. You are

recommended not to use this method.

Color level
This section allows you to select the most appropriate color level for the connection speed. Where the connection
speed is slow or inconsistent there will be a necessary compromise between screen response and color depth.

Full – This mode is suitable only for fast network connections and will pass on the maximum colour depth

being used by the host system.

Medium (256 colors) – This mode reduces the host system output to a 256 color mode and is more suitable

for ISDN.

Low (64 colors) – This mode reduces the host system output to 64 colors.
Very low (8 colors) – This mode provides very rudimentary picture quality and hardly any speed advantage

over the 64 color setting. This mode is not recommended to use.
