To remove the Ni-Cd battery pack, place the Scanner or Injector face down and slide the arrow-

the two tabs on the top of the battery in the Scanner and press down on the battery pack until it
clicks into place.

2-Way Injector+/2-Way Injector Battery

The Injector is powered on by the Scanner. When active, the Injector’s Status Indicator will
indicate the current mode of operation. After 15 seconds of inactivity, the Injector will
automatically shut itself off to preserve battery life.

When operating with the AC adapter plugged in, the Injector is always on. If it is inactive (i.e. not
performing measurements), the Injector recharges its battery pack. The Charging LED will indicate
the state of the battery. (See the section titled

CHARGING Indicator

for details). Battery charging

is disabled while the Injector is performing a measurement function. After 15 seconds of inactivity,
the Injector automatically returns to charging mode.

Ni-Cd Battery Tips

Power off the unit before changing the Ni-Cd battery pack.

Ni-Cd battery pack must be replaced

within five minutes to avoid memory loss.

If the display goes blank while the AC adapter is plugged in to the Scanner, it indicates that the
Ni-Cd battery pack is on maintenance (“trickle”) charge.

The Ni-Cd battery pack is NOT being recharged while the Scanner is powered ON.

The Ni-Cd battery pack is recharged by powering OFF the Scanner and plugging the AC
adapter in to the Scanner or by using the optional external Quick Charger.

The average time to recharge the Ni-Cd battery pack is about 15 hours with the AC adapter,
and 2 to 3 hours with the Quick Battery Charger.

To further maximize Ni-Cd battery pack life, Microtest recommends that approximately every 7
- 10 charging cycles, you refresh your battery using

Battery Refresh Mode

(see below).

To maximize Ni-Cd battery pack life, avoid extreme temperatures.

Backlighting the display causes increased battery drain.

Average daily life of the Ni-Cd battery is about 8 hours.

Contact your Microtest distributor for details on the external Quick Charger, Microtest Part

You can refresh your

,

and

battery using the

Scanner’s

Battery Refresh Mode

. When you set the Refresh Mode, the unit’s battery will fully

discharge and then recharge, which should increase your battery’s life. The Refresh Mode is
executed via the PENTA reflash program.

To put your Scanner into Refresh Mode, attach it to your PC with a DB-9 serial cable. Attach the
AC Adapter to the Scanner, and power the unit on. At the PC’s DOS prompt, type:

PENTA -REFRESH -C1 (for COM1, or -C2 for COM2)

and press Enter.

The Scanner’s display will read:

The PentaScanner+ is in battery refresh mode.

When finished discharging, the Scanner will turn itself off and proceed to recharge via the AC
adapter.
