1.

If the bearings are being replaced, remove the shaft retaining ring, then
press the bearings from the pump shaft. (See Figure 6a-9: “Replacing 80
FC Series Pump Shaft Oil Seal” on page 103.)
Also see heading “Bearings”
on page 81.

2.

Install (press–on) one bearing, bearing shim, then the other bearing onto
the pump shaft. Then install the bearing retaining ring. (See Figure 6a-9:
“Replacing 80 FC Series Pump Shaft Oil Seal” on page 103.)

3.

Apply ample grease to assist with the installation. Also see heading
“Grease” on page 140.

Installation Notes – Bell Housing Adapter, 80 FC Series Only

Review heading 6a.1 “General Preparation” on page 85.

Make sure the SHIM is installed between the shaft bearings.

Note: If the bell housing and pump head were disassembled, make sure to install a
new gasket.

Insert (or press) a new oil seal (Hale p/n: 296-2090-00-0) into the pump
head bore. Apply a coating of general-purpose grease to the seal to ease
installation. (See Figure 6a-9: “Replacing 80 FC Series Pump Shaft Oil
Seal” on page 103.)

Insert the pump shaft assembly into the pump head making sure the bear-
ings bottoms evenly within the head. Be careful not to damage the oil seal.

Apply Loctite and install the four (4) 1/4”-20 screws to hold the bearing
extension cover to the pump head. Tighten the screws in a criss-cross pat-
tern and torque accordingly - see Table 6-1: “Typical Torque Values Chart”
on page 79.

Whenever the bell housing (flywheel) adapter is removed, match mark the
location of any shims between the bell housing and the engine flange and
assure they are replaced at reassembly. Also see Section 7.5 “Check Fly-
wheel Run Out” on page 129.

Install the bell housing by inserting the splined pump shaft through the #11
disk assembly and into the engine mount roller bearing making sure the
splined shaft seats properly. Apply grease accordingly.

Apply Loctite and install the twelve (12) 3/8”-16 screws and assemble the
bell housing to the engine mount. Tighten the screws in a criss-cross pat-
tern and torque accordingly - see Table 6-1: “Typical Torque Values Chart”
on page 79.

Apply grease to the grease fitting in the pump head to lubricate the bearing
chamber - see heading “Pump Head Bearing Lubrication” on page 63.
