Pump Shaft Bearings

1.

If either set of bearings are being replaced, remove the shaft retaining rings
(2), then press the bearings from the pump shaft. (See Figure 6a-9:
“Replacing 80 FC Series Pump Shaft Oil Seal” on page 103.)

It is recommended to replace both sets to avoid unnecessary downtown.
Also see heading “Bearings” on page 81.

2.

Examine the oil slinger and replace as needed. Order Hale p/n: 242-0060-
00-0. Make sure the slinger is positioned on the shaft AWAY from the air
breather (oil FILL) vent so that oil is not splashed from the vent. (See Fig-
ure 6a-10: “Pedestal Mount Pump Shaft Oil Seals (2), 40 / 5- FB-U and 80
FC-U Series” on page 106.)

3.

Install (press–on) one bearing, bearing shim, then the other bearing onto
the pump shaft. Then install the bearing retaining rings (2).

4.

Apply ample grease to assist with the installation. Also see heading
“Grease” on page 140.

Installation Notes – Pedestal

Review heading 6a.1 “General Preparation” on page 85.

Make sure the SHIM is installed between the shaft bearings.

Insert (or press) a new oil seal (Hale p/n: 296-2070-00-0) into the pedestal.
Apply a coating of general-purpose grease to the seal to ease installation.
(See Figure 6a-10: “Pedestal Mount Pump Shaft Oil Seals (2), 40 / 5- FB-U
and 80 FC-U Series” on page 106.)

Insert the pump shaft assembly into the pump head making sure the bear-
ings bottoms evenly within the head. Be careful not to damage the oil seal.

Apply Loctite and install the four (4) screws to hold the bearing extension
cover to the pump head. Tighten the screws in a criss-cross pattern and
torque accordingly - see Table 6-1: “Typical Torque Values Chart” on page
79.

Replace all gaskets. Apply a small amount of grease to the gasket(s).

Slide the pump shaft assembly into the pedestal being careful not to damage
the pedestal oil seal as the shaft passes through.

Apply Loctite and install the four (4) 9/16”-12 screws and NEW sealing wash-
ers to secure the pump head to the pedestal. Tighten the screws in a criss-
cross pattern and torque accordingly - see Table 6-1: “Typical Torque Values
Chart” on page 79.

Note: If the splined pump shaft contains a retaining ring at the splined end, install the
ring.
