Drive Shaft Oil Seal

1.

Remove the four (4) 5/16”-18 and the two (2) 7/16”-14 screws to dismantle
the bell housing from the gearbox. (See Figure 6c-1: “20 / 30 FS Series
Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview” on page 117.)

Drive Shaft and Gearbox Assembly

1.

Review heading 6c.1 “General Preparation” on page 115.

2.

If the gearbox is equipped with a water manifold, remove the twelve (12) 5/
16”-18 screws and washers and remove the water manifold and gasket from
the gearbox.

If the pump is not equipped with a water manifold, remove the screws and
washers, the gearbox cover, and gasket.

3.

Remove the 1/2”-13 nylon locking set screw from the gearbox housing.
(See Figure 6c-1: “20 / 30 FS Series Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview”
on page 117.)

4.

With the set screw removed, insert a drift punch into the 1/2”-13 hole and
begin pushing the drive shaft from the gearbox WHILE protecting the drive
gear and possibly the pump-side bearing, from falling out.

5.

Once the shaft is clear of the gearbox, remove the drive gear, shaft key, and
possibly the pump-side bearing, from the gearbox housing.

6.

Remove the engine-side bearing from the drive shaft.

7.

Inspect all parts for excessive wear, chips, scoring or other damage. Repair
and/or replace accordingly.
