Monitoring Test E-mails

Equipment required:

1. Spider with e-mail option, with initialized Network / E-mail

settings, and connected to the appropriate network (LAN or
mobile network)

2. PC running a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal
3. Crossover serial cable


Procedure:

1. Set your terminal program to 9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,

and no parity.

2. Connect your PC serial port to the Spider AUX2 port (the DB-

9 connector on the outside of the enclosure) using the
crossover serial cable.

3. Send a test e-mail as described above in

Sending Test e-

mails

. Your PC will display diagnostic messages for each

step of the sending process. The last message will usually
indicate where the problem lies.


Most diagnostic messages are self-explanatory. Here are some
additional tips:

using LAN e-mail sending method. Ensure that the gateway
and the primary and the secondary DNS are set correctly and
that there is connectivity to the internet or to your SMTP mail
host computer.

Messages starting with 3-digit numeric codes are generated
by the SMTP host computer and will indicate invalid sender,
recipient, etc. Your network administrator or ISP can supply
the correct settings.
