Appendix D: Remote Access Configuration
and Quick Start Guide

This appendix provides brief instructions on setting up the Spider for
communication and testing communications performance prior to
deploying the unit to the field.

NOTE:
The following information pertains only to remote access
using static IP addressing. Therefore, when testing wireless services
involving dynamic IP addressing, ignore the Remote Access section.

Remote Access

Remote Access, also referred to as Web access, is a communication
feature available when using a Public static IP address SIM card.
Using a Public static IP address, the user can access the Spider over
the Internet through any browser. The only information required for
access to the Spider is the IP address, username, and password.

The Remote Access feature is not intended for enabling the user to
remain online with the Spider to monitor input values real-time;
however, the Spider can be used for this purpose for limited time
periods. ADS provides this feature primarily as a maintenance tool to
eliminate site visits for changing alarm settings, control set points,
automatic report setup, or other configuration parameters. It also
allows the user to request current reports of logged data and control
(turn on and off) outputs real-time.

NOTE: Remaining online with the Spider through Remote Access
prevents the units from sending out alarms. Therefore, do not
maintain continuous contact with the Spider over the Internet for
extended periods of time.

SIM Installation

The first step involves inserting the SIM into the modem. Please
insert the SIM into the modem gently to avoid slipping it into the
modem housing. Carefully review the images on the attached SIM
