5. OPERATION

The full potential of the CEL-296/3 Octave and Third Octave Filter
Set is realised only when it is used with a sound level meter
equipped with the CEL low power serial interface. The filter set is
able to control an autoscan frequency analysis and store the
measured spectra received from the sound level meter in digital
form.

The CEL-296/3 may also be used with non-equipped sound level
meters as an orthodox filter set whose frequency bands can be
stepped manually or by remote control from some other instrument
such as a level recorder.

Section 5.1 describes how the filter set is operated with sound level
meters equipped with the interface, while Section 5.2 covers use
with non-equipped instruments. Note that after interface equipped
instruments have been prepared for use as described below, they
may also be used with manual or remote frequency scanning
following the directions given in Section 5.2.2.

5.1 Analysis Using Instruments Equipped With the Low

Power Serial Interface

Before the filter set can be used for frequency analysis, it must be
connected to a measuring instrument, and power must be available
for both of them.

5.1.1 Preparation for Use With Measuring Instruments

Equipped With the Low Power Interface

Operation with these instruments is commenced as follows.

1.

Ensure that both instruments are switched OFF.
