Troubleshooting

The diskette drive LED illuminates continuously

Hard drive problems

The server does not recognize a SCSI drive

Memory and processor problems

The system detected memory errors during start up

Probable cause

Solution

The diskette is corrupted

Remove the diskette from the drive. If the light remains on,
try restarting the server.

The cable to the drive is
not connected properly

Open the server, then make sure the cable between the
diskette drive and its controller is properly connected. Make
sure that the pins are not bent or misaligned.

Probable cause

Solution

SCSI hot-swap drive is
not seated correctly

Open the server and reseat the hot-swap drive(s). This
problem is most common immediately after shipping.

The SCSI bus is not
properly terminated

Open the server and make sure that the last device on the
SCSI bus is properly terminated.

The drive is configured
with a conflicting SCSI
address

Change the device’s SCSI address to one that is not
currently being used by the server.

The cables are not
connected correctly

Open the server, then make sure the cables are connected
properly.

Probable cause

Solution

Memory was added or
removed, and the new
configuration was not saved
in the BIOS Setup utility

Open the BIOS Setup utility and save the new memory
configuration.

The memory was installed
incorrectly

Make sure that the memory is proper seated and
oriented.
