11 Cnt Ac-J Z troubleshooting

This chapter provides Continuous Access Journal Z troubleshooting information.

General troubleshooting

When an error occurs in a Continuous Access Journal Z pair operation with Remote Web Console,
an error message displays with a four-digit error code and description. An SVP error code may
also be included. See HP XP7 Remote Web Console Messages for details on error codes.

You can download Remote Web Console dump files using the Dump tool. If you are unable to
resolve an error, use the tool to copy the dump files to a file, and then contact the HP Technical
Support for assistance.

The following describes general troubleshooting problems and solutions for Continuous Access
Journal Z.

Corrective action

Error

Make sure that the problem is not being caused by the computer or Ethernet
hardware or software, and restart the computer. Restarting the Remote
Web Console computer does not affect Cnt Ac-J Z operations in progress.

Remote Web Console hangs, or Cnt Ac-J Z operations
do not function properly.

Make sure that Cnt Ac-J Z requirements are met.

Make sure that the primary and secondary systems and remote copy
connections are powered on, and that NVS and cache are fully
operational.

Check all the entered values and parameters to make sure that you entered
the correct information on the Remote Web Console computer (for example,
secondary system S/N, path parameters, P-VOL and S-VOL IDs).

If you are using Performance Monitor, refrain from using it.

Please call HP Technical Support for assistance.

An initiator channel-enable LED indicator (on the
control window) is off or flashing.

Check whether you selected correct items and options in Cnt Ac-J Z Remote
Web Console windows.

Status of pairs and/or remote paths is not displayed
correctly.

Locate the SIM (see HP XP7 Remote Web Console User Guide for
instructions). For information about Cnt Ac-J Z SIMs, see

“Service

information messages (SIMs) ” (page 129)

.

An R-SIM warning appears on your Remote Web
Console computer.

Remove the error cause, and then retry the Cnt Ac-J operation.

A Cnt Ac-J error message appears on the Remote
Web Console computer.

Check the path status in the Remote Connections window, and see

“Remote

paths status probelms” (page 115)

.

The status of a remote path is not normal.

Check the pair status in the View Pair Properties window, and see

“Troubleshooting by suspension type ” (page 117)

for suspend types and

corrective action.

The pair status is suspended.
