9.3 Function
The software and the operating system of the Industrial PC are stored on the CF card. With
»IPC Backup & Restore« for Windows® CE you have the possibility of saving data from the
CF card to a USB stick.
A backup created like this can be transferred from the USB stick to the CF card anytime by
restoring the data.
Furthermore a software update from a USB stick can be installed on the CF card of the
Industrial PC by means of »IPC Backup & Restore«.
The entire update process comprises several individual steps and is processed as follows.
 Backup of the current system before changes have been carried out, in the following
referred to as Backup_orig.
 Migration of the existing databases to the new structure, in the case of a version
change.
 Installation of the SW update containing the Lenze software and the operating system.
The update process contains several successive steps; the sequence step is only carried out
if the previous step was carried out successfully. In order to be able to trace this sequencer,
log messages are written throughout the procedure.
The log messages signal the steps that have been carried out.
