7.2.0 Setting Station Limits and Install the
Physical Specimen

To install the physical specimen into the test frame, you must position the actuator. To do this, you may use
one or more of the following, depending on your system:

The Manual Command panel in the Station Manager application

The Model 494.05 Handset

Test frame controls

This section describes how to install the specimen with the Manual Command panel and other Station Manager
application features.

For information that pertains to test frame controls, refer to the documentation that accompanies the equipment.
For information that pertains to the Model 494.05 Handset, see the MTS Model 494.05 Handset manual (PN
100-194-691).

7.2.1.0 Setting Station Detector Limits

About station and test detector limits

Set detector limits with both the Station Manager and MPE applications. You set station limits with the Station
Manager application. You typically set station limits to minimize the risk of damage to your test equipment if
the full-scale range of the hardware is exceeded. You set test limits with event detection activities in the MPE
application. Tests limits are inside the range of station limits. You typically set test limits to minimize the risk
of damage to the specimen.

Note:

The MPE application cannot detect or affect the station limits you set with the Station Manager
application. You must ensure each application is configured to detect limits as necessary to minimize
risk of equipment damage and personal injury.

About setting detector limits to install the specimen

Before installing the specimen, you typically use the Station Manager application to set detector limits and
actions to minimize the risk of injury to yourself and damage to the specimen and test equipment.

This involves setting limit detectors (for example, displacement or load limits) and assigning an interlock
action that will remove hydraulics if the system senses conditions that might injure somebody or damage a
specimen. For more information on using the Station Manager application to set limit detectors, see the MTS
Series 793 Control Software Manual
.
