GUIDING AND SUPPORTING
THE FABRIC
Most fabrics need only to be
guided
in
front of the presser foot. Some fabrics,
however, require
support
while being
stitched. Filmy sheers, panne velvet, and
tricots, for example, need to be held taut
In front and back of the presser foot while
being sewn.
For information on sewing knit and
stretch fabrics with zig-zag stitching,
refer to page 38.
CAUTION :
Do not pull the fabric while
you are stitching as this may deflect the
needle causing it to break.

CURVED SEAMS
1. Use a short stitch length for elasticity
and strength. For example, if you use 12
stitches per inch for straight seams,
select 15 to 20 per inch to stitch curved
seams in the same fabric.
2. For the greatest accuracy, use the
straight-stitch foot and needle plate.
