9.3 Insulating PV Modules Equipped with Remote GFDI and

Insulation Monitoring Device

Ground fault monitoring with remote GFDI does not provide protection from injury.
The "Remote GFDI and insulation monitoring" option allows you to automatically switch the PV array
from grounded operation to insulated operation. To ensure that there is no insulation error on the
grounded pole, an insulation measurement is carried out. After switching to insulated operation, the
insulation monitoring device checks each pole of the PV array for potential insulation errors.
Switching to insulated operation is useful whenever you need to perform maintenance or service work
on or near the PV array (e.g. cutting the grass) or check the status of the insulation at regular intervals.

Switching PV Modules from Grounded to Insulated Operation

• Set the "RemMntSvc" parameter to On (see section 5.2 "Changing Parameters", page 34).

☑ The insulation monitoring device starts collecting data. The error "3505 ‒ ground fault

ignored" appears. This error indicates that the PV array is operating without a grounding
connection.

✖ Does the error message not go away?

The insulation is defective.
• Have the insulation checked and, if necessary, repaired by an electrically qualified

person.

• Reset the error.

Switching PV Modules from Insulated to Grounded Operation

• Set the "RemMntSvc" parameter to Off (see section 5.2 "Changing Parameters", page 34).

☑ The inverter is running in grounded operation.

Risk of lethal electric shock.
The component parts in the inverter are under voltage. Touching live component parts can result in
serious injury or death.

• After opening the inverter, wait at least 10 minutes for the capacitors to discharge.
• Do not touch live component parts.
