scheduled automatic head cleaning of tape libraries. Scheduled
cleaning should be considered in installations having high amounts
of airborne particulates.
Caution:
Do not use the cleaning cartridge for more than
the number of specified cleaning cycles indicated on the
cartridge label. Mark the cleaning cartridge each time you
use it, or use backup software to track cleaning cartridge
usage.
To clean the drive heads manually:
1.
From the General Status screen, tap Inventory. This brings up the
Inventory screen.
2.
Tap the Open/Close button. A window pops up asking Open Entry/Exit
Port? Tap OK. This opens the E/E door.
3.
Insert the cleaning cartridge in any slot available, taking note of the
slot number.
4.
Tap the Open/Close button. A window pops up asking Close Entry/Exit
Port? Tap OK. This closes the E/E door.
5.
Select the slot which holds the cleaning cartridge. Then select the
drive you wish to clean.
