The QSFP transceiver part numbers supported on the core blades are different from the QSFP
transceiver part numbers supported on the FC16-64 port blade. They are not interchangeable.

• QSFP ports on the core blades are fixed speed 16-Gbps ports designed to be used with specialized

quad (4x16) connections and cables. They support only SWL.

• QSFP ports on the FC16-64 port blades can run at 4, 8, or 16-Gbps port speeds to be used with

quad-SFP connectors and cables. However, all the four ports in a QSFP should be configured to run
at the same port speed.

The ports are universal and self-configuring, capable of becoming F_Ports (fabric ports), FL_Ports
(fabric loop-enabled ports), or E_Ports (expansion ports).

The ports meet all required safety standards. For a listing of these standards, refer to

Power specifications

The power subsystem is a redundant +48V DC power distribution system with a provision for up to two
2000-watt, 48V DC bulk power supplies. Two bulk power supplies produce the intermediate distribution
voltage in the distributed power system.

If circuits are available, 200-240 VAC (220 VAC nominal) is always recommended as a greener and
more efficient alternative.

NOTE
If any of the following intelligent blades are used, 200-240 VAC is required: FS8-18, or FX8-24.

The following table shows the basic power specifications for each power supply.

Power specifications

TABLE 21

Specification

Value

Input voltage

Range: 85-264 VAC Auto-volt, Nominal: 100-240 VAC.

Input frequency

Range: 47-63 Hz; Nominal: 50-60 Hz.

Inrush current

Limited to 60A peak for any initial current surge or spike of 10 ms or less at either cold
or warm start. Any additional inrush current surges or spikes in the form of AC cycles
or multiple AC cycles greater than 10 ms, and less than 150 ms, must not exceed 15A
peak.

Power supply output (each) Low line (85-132 VAC), 1000W; High line (180-264 VAC), 2000W.

The power requirements for a given configuration depend on which blades have been installed in the
chassis. The following table shows the power draw for the blades that can be used in the Brocade DCX
8510-4 chassis along with the power draw for the cooling fans.

All numbers for the blades assume that the blade is fully populated with optical transceivers, including
QSFPs for the core blades.

You can calculate your power requirements by combining the power draws for the various blades and
fan units in your configuration. While you may use fewer ports in a given blade, it is always safer to use
the power requirement of a fully populated blade.
