20.1. Determining density of solid object

Before starting the procedure, it is necessary to determine parameters of the

process, such as:

Type of liquid

o

Distilled water

o

Ethanol

o

Other liquid with determined density

Liquid temperature

(required if used liquid is distilled water or ethanol)

Liquid density

It is set automatically if liquid type Water or Ethanol is used and on

inserting liquid temperature. If used liquid is <Other> then it has to

be inserted manually.

The density of solids is calculated according to a formula:

o

B

A

A

ρ

ρ

=

ρ - density of a sample

A - sample’s mass measured in the air

B - sample mass measured in liquid

ρ

o

- liquid density

PROCEDURE

1. Assembly the density determination kit

2. Should the density value be saved in a product record of the database of

products, set parameter <Assign density to product> in <Settings> and

activate product using quick access key <Product>,

3. Press <

Density of solids > soft key

4. A window with menu is opened, set appropriate values for fields: Standard

liquid, Temperature, Density of standard liquid,

5. Press <

START > key

6. The balance is ready to start density determining process of solids.

7. Load a sample on the TOP pan of the density kit, and on stabilization of

measurement result press <

> key,

8. Load the sample on the BOTTOM pan of the density kit which is immersed

in liquid, and on stabilization of measurement result press <

> key,

9. The display indicates result of density determining process,

10. Press <

> key to finish the procedure.

Caution:

Pressing <

> key starts another density determining process with the same

settings.
