In Figure 4-47, the slave NID detects that the master NID has failed. The slave NID therefore
becomes the master NID and begins testing at the next test address. It sends all test packets
from its Network Port. If the (current) slave NID's LAG link is down, all test results are received
over the (current) master LAG link. If the (current) slave NID is down but the LAG is still up, then
some test results are routed over the (current) slave's LAG link and are lost.

When a NID goes off line, as in Figure 4-48, the operational NID becomes the master. In this
example, the slave NID’s LAG link is down and the master NID’s LAG link is up. The master NID
sends all test packets from its Network Port and receives all test responses over its Network Port.
Because the slave NID’s LAG link is down, all traffic occurs over the remaining LAG link.
