Leica CM1510 S – Cryostat

8.6

Reinstalling the microtome

The microtome must be completely
dry before reinstallation.
Humidity inside the microtome will
condense and freeze in the cold cry-
ostat and thus may cause malfunc-
tions or damage.

Place the microtome into the cryochamber
slightly left from the original position. Make
sure the specimen head is in the lowest
position.

Lubricate the surface of the plastic cou-
pling (5) with a drop of cryostat oil.

Mount plastic coupling (5) on shaft (4).

Use your right hand to bring the handwheel
handle in the lowest position and keep the
handle in place.

Push the microtome to the right with your
left hand and, if necessary for proper align-
ment of the parts, slightly turn the hand-
wheel back and forth until coupling (5) en-
gages into shaft (6).

Tighten screws (3).

Reconnect the coarse feed motor plug (1)
and the temperature sensor (2) (ensure that
temperature sensor (2) fits against the cop-
per spring with the polished bush).

Put shelves, heat extractor, section waste
tray, brush shelf and knife holder back into
cryochamber.

Reinstall sliding window.

The instrument is ready to be switched
back on.
