Live 911 test calls must be made to ensure that the PBX, 9145, and C.O. ISDN-PRI circuits

are functioning correctly.

1.

Place a 911 Call from a PBX station.

2.

Verify that the front panel call status indicator is green, indicating that the call was

sent to the system.

3.

Listen for ringback tone.

4.

When the 911 Call Taker answers, indicate that this is a test call and ask for the 10-

digit telephone number (ANI) displayed. Do not hang up on the Call Taker without

speaking.

5.

Hang up the 911 calling station.

6.

Using the Event Log viewer, retrieve the Event Log and examine event record for

the test call.

7.

Verify that the time/date, PBX station number, translated ANI number, and address

are correct.

8.

Verify that the 10-digit number in the call event record matches the number

reported by the 911 Call Taker.

Perform this test with at least 10 stations.
Many PBXs are in a networked environment where you may have a host PBX and remote

PBXs attached. An example might be a school district where there are multiple sites that all

route their 911 calls through the 9145 located with the host. In this case, it’s important to

place test calls from each remote location.

Each of the reporting devices defined with the Administration program must be tested for

proper operation. Alert Responder PCs, text messaging cellular telephones, and email

clients should each be tested to ensure that they are capable of receiving 911 call

notification. Some Alert Responder PCs may only be set up to receive alarm notification.
Stations and reporting devices may be assigned group numbers. 911 call notification from

a station assigned to group 2 will only be reported to a reporting device assigned to group

2. You may have to generate test calls from each group to test reporting devices or assign

a station to group 0 for testing purposes. A station assigned to group 0 will cause

notification to be sent to every device regardless of the devices’ group number

assignment.
