achieved by mounting the microphone and preamplifier on a CEL-4627
Tripod and connecting them to the instrument by plugging in to one end
of a CEL-4493/10 Extension Cable, the other end of which is plugged
into the preamplifier socket.

It is also recommended that the relevant windshield be used whenever
possible: CEL-2962 for the CEL268, and CEL-4672/2 for the CEL-368.
The windshield should be removed and washed from time to time in
clean water with a little detergent. Ensure that it is thoroughly rinsed and
dried before re-fitting.

Loading Batteries/External Power

The instrument is powered by a set of four standard AA size batteries
and it is recommended that alkaline IEC Type LR6 be used. Recharge-
able nickel cadmium batteries may also be employed, but will give a
shorter operating life. Zinc carbon batteries are NOT suitable.

The batteries are located in a compartment reached by sliding open a
cover near the bottom of the right hand side of the instrument case. (Re-
fer to Figures 4 and 6.)

1.

Remove the sliding cover
carefully as it has four spring contacts to hold the batteries in
place.

2.

Insert the batteries in
the orientations shown to ensure that correct instrument polarity
is maintained.

Battery voltage will be indicated in the real-time displays described in
Section 6.1.

If there is doubt whether the batteries will be able to power the instru-
ment for the times set, or when measurements are required over long
periods, the sound level meter can be powered directly from an external
6 - 15 V DC supply without the need to remove the internal batteries.
