Chapter 6: The Wet Grain

Out of Grain Timer — The timer that starts once the load auger begins to turn and stops when the
dryer wet bin is full. If it elapses, a shutdown message alerts you that the wet grain storage bin sup-
plying the dryer is empty. The Load Auger switch must be in the Auto position for the out of grain
timer to work.

NOTE: The Remaining field displays a countdown of the set delay or timer. Click it to interrupt the

countdown and enter a new value.

Tip

An out of grain timer setting that is too short causes the dryer to stop before the dryer wet bin fills up; a set-
ting that is too long causes the load auger to keep turning long after the wet grain supply has been
depleted. If the default setting is inappropriate, set the out of grain timer to the maximum time it takes for
the loading mechanism to refill your dryer wet bin plus two to five minutes.

Minimizing Load Auger Startups

To minimize the number of times that the load auger starts, you can increase the load delay if the loading
mechanism starts more than once every two minutes, or decrease it if pressure-related shutdowns occur.

Before You Begin

Make sure that the Load Auger switch on the control panel is in the Auto. For information on the load
delay’s role in the automatic loading sequence, see

The Loading Process, page 53

. The load delay is only

active in auto mode.

What You Should Know

A load delay that is too short causes the loading mechanism to start and stop frequently. Because frequent
startups can shorten the life of the loading equipment’s electric motors, they should be avoided. On the
other hand, a load delay that is too long can cause low air pressure shutdowns to occur, as a result of the
grain level dropping below the top of the plenum chamber.

Consider the following factors when setting the load delay:

• The speed that the loading mechanism fills the dryer wet bin

A fast speed requires a longer delay to avoid frequent startups. A slow speed requires a shorter
delay to avoid pressure-related shutdowns.

• The dryer’s unload speed

The speed that dry grain is unloaded determines the time it takes to make room in the dryer wet bin.
The load delay starts once space in the dryer wet bin is detected.

To set the load delay:

1. From the menu pane, click System→Load (Advanced)→Load Delay.

2. Set the following parameter:

Load Delay — The time from when the dryer detects available space in the dryer wet bin (that is,
when the level of wet grain drops below the load auger fill switch) to when the loading mechanism is
activated. The Load Auger switch must be in the Auto position for the load delay to work.

NOTE: The Remaining field displays a countdown of the set delay or timer. Click it to interrupt the

countdown and enter a new value.
