Drying Grain in Continuous Flow

To dry grain in continuous flow, you can choose a control scheme that uses either the grain’s temperature
or its moisture content to determine the metering roll speed.

Before You Begin

• Make sure to set the timers and delays (see

Setting the Dryer’s Timers and Delays, page 30

).

• Make sure to obtain the desired outgoing moisture level with the dryer unloading grain in manual

mode (Unload Auger switch to On) before switching to auto mode. To validate the moisture levels of
the dry grain, see

Validating Outgoing Moisture And Temperature Readings, page 71

.

• Decide whether to dry grain in full-heat or dry and cool operation. Once decided, set the switches on

the control panel as follows:

— In full-heat, place all Fan and Heater switches to On or Auto. In continuous flow drying, there is

no difference in placing the fan and heater switches in the On or Auto positions.

— In dry and cool, place all Fan switches to On or Auto, and place the bottom heater (where cooling

takes place) to Off.

Tip

In continuous flow drying, you can only use dry and cool if your dryer is equipped with two or more fans
and heaters.

What You Should Know

Full-heat allows you to discharge uncooled, hot grain whose moisture content is above its target, and then
manage the grain cooling process outside the confines of the dryer. Conversely, dry and cool allows you to
completely dry and cool the grain within the dryer and, in doing so, unload dry grain that is relatively close
to its target moisture content for storing. For more information on these drying operations, see

Grain

Drying: Full-Heat or Dry and Cool, page 80

.

To dry grain in continuous flow:

1. If the dryer is running, press Stop on the control panel.
