Installing PCI Support

Compaq Support Paqs for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (CSPs), contains all of
the software components required to support Compaq PCI Hot Plug. Included
in the Compaq Support Paq for Windows NT are hot-plug-aware device
drivers, such as Compaq NC 3131 Controllers and the Smart Array 3200
Controller. The CSP for Windows NT also provides the PCI Hot Plug Utility,
Hot Plug service, and the System Management driver.

Significant points to consider when installing Windows NT on a PCI Hot Plug
system are:

Automatic device detection may not yield results consistent with the
actual hardware configuration. Confirm the auto detect by looking at the
hardware.

Multiple network adapters may complicate the network setup phase.

PCI Hot Plug technology for Windows NT 4.0 relies on the presence of
the Windows NT Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) service. See the
Windows NT documentation for more information.

PCI Hot Plug technology for Windows NT 4.0 requires installation of
the Compaq Support Paq for Windows NT to provide updated drivers,
utilities, and operating system support code.

For more information on Windows NT support for PCI Hot Plug technology,
refer to the PCI Hot Plug Administration Guide on the Server Documentation
CD, the Microsoft online help file, or the Compaq technology brief,
“Deploying PCI Hot Plug on Compaq Servers in a Microsoft Windows NT
Environment,” on the Compaq website:
