Finger Meter Clean-Out
Finger meters have a side clean-out door.

Refer to Figure 113
1.

To recover the seed, raise the drill and place a tarp
or bucket under the seed tube exit port on the side of
the meter.

2.

If you are not also emptying the seed box and seed
tube, first shutoff seed flow to the meter at the sliding
cap. See page 54 for instructions. If there is seed
that will not be cleaned out above the meter, step 5
below will not be possible.

3.

Open clean-out door on side of meter.

4.

How freely seed flows out the clean-out depends on
the seed size, shape and treatments. It is commonly
necessary to gently tap or shake the meter to ensure
complete flow.

5.

Uncouple the meter drive (page 55) and rotate the
finger wheel a few turns in the normal operating
direction (counter-clockwise rotation at the shaft
input).

6.

If the sliding seed cap is open, remove the meter
from the row unit (see page 59). Invert it and shake
out any remaining seed. Inspect the sliding seed
tubes while dismounted (see page 110).

Note: Do not routinely disassemble finger meters for

cleaning. Re-assembly is complex.

7.

Close the clean-out door on the meter.

8.

Install the [next] seed meter the instructions on
page 59.
