Row Unit Shutoff

When operating with non-standard row spacings, it is
necessary to at least stop the seed flow to the unused
rows. You may also want to take other steps to reduce
wear of components on the unused rows.

Review marker extension if changing row spacing.

Seed Tube Shutoff
Both Great Plains precision and finger pickup meters
have a sliding cap which can be moved and pinned to
prevent seed flow into the meter. Cap shutoff can be
engaged with seed loaded or seed box empty.

Cap shutoff does not prevent the seed tube above it from
filling with seed. To keep the unused seed tubes empty,
use seed tube plugs or seed box baffles.

Refer to Figure 41, which depicts a rear precision meter with
the cap in the normal (open) position.
For shutoff, caps on rear meters move forward, and caps
on front meters move to the rear.

Note: When both pins are in the cap slots, the meter is

open to seed flow. When one pin is in the slot, and
the other in the cap hole, the meter is closed to
seed flow.

Refer to Figure 42, which depicts a rear meter

Remove the retaining clip

and the washer

.

2.

Do not remove the cotter pin

. It secures a fixed pin

that always remains in place.

Refer to Figure 43, which depicts a rear meter
3.

Remove the pin

.

4.

Slide the cap

toward the fixed pin

.

5.

Re-insert the pin

and secure with washer and clip.

6.

If seed is already loaded, perform a meter clean-out
(page 107 or page 109) and return the recovered
seed to the seed box.

7.

If you don’t intend to disconnect the meter chain, you
can remove a precision meter wheel to reduce wear.
The meter itself, however, must be installed and
coupled to prevent the chain from causing machine
damage.

8.

Repeat step 1 through step 7 for each meter to be
disabled.
